He sounds like a guy who uses email to accomplish functional tasks more efficiently, but not for conversation. In order to agree to go out with her, he needed to ascertain her age. He did that. In order to set up a date, he needed to be feeling better, so he put off things until he was feeling better, but explained it so she wouldn’t think she was being blown off (which didn’t stop a bunch of people from assuming he was anyway). Then once he was feeling better, he needed to set up a date for a specific time, but explained his availability so she wouldn’t think she was second-fiddle (which didn’t stop a bunch of people from assuming he thought that way anyway).
He hasn’t done anything but not engage her in chatty conversation, which some people just don’t do via email at all, or prefer not to do before they’ve met someone. And since she didn’t even comment on him being sick, she didn’t exactly corner the social graces market.
And maybe I’m saying this because I just had one of the best dates ever with someone who didn’t make any conversation at all prior to the date, but was plenty conversational/likeable/chatty/considerate/non-douchey in person. But hey, they’re out there, apparently. Hopefully the OP will have as much fun on Sunday as I did tonight.
